Sinhagad (  सिंहगड किल्ला   ) गड आला , पण सिंह गेला ...  Sinhagad ( Lion’s fort ), the most popular fort among Punekars due to its close vicinity. It is located at around 25 km south west of the city of Pune , Maharashtra . There  are two gates to enter the fort, one is Kalyan Darwaja positioned at the south east and another one is the Pune Darwaja which is positioned at the north-east. Sinhagad fort was previously known by the name “Kondhana” , this fort has been the site of many important battles, most notably the Battle of Sinhagad in 1671 . Raigad Fort Sinhagad Fort More Forts Raigad “The words are less to mention the beauty and richness of this place” Raigad is one of the best hill fort situated in Raigad district of Maharashtra. Many trek lovers choose this fort to trek with its height of 820 metres(2700 ft) above the sea level. This fort was known as fort of “Rairi” ,it is renamed by name “Raigad” when Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Captured the fort on 6th April 1656. Mughals named the fort as “Islamgad” after raigad when they captured the fort on 3rd November 1689.
