Raigad is one of the best hill fort situated in Raigad district of Maharashtra. Many trek lovers choose this fort to trek with its height of 820 metres(2700 ft) above the sea level. This fort was known as fort of “Rairi” ,it is renamed by name “Raigad” when Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Captured the fort on 6th April 1656. Mughals named the fort as “Islamgad” after raigad when they captured the fort on 3rd November 1689.

Raigad fort is really famous because very proudest and historical memories are with this fort. The golden moment for Maratha empire was coronation ceremony of Shivaji Maharaj which is also known as 'ShivRajyabhishek', held on raigad fort On 6th june ,1674 and after this Shivaji Maharaj is the one who became the first Chhatrapati of Maratha Empire. Other ceremonies of Chhatrapati Sambaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj also held on this fort. The worst day of Maratha Empire was 3rd April 1680 when Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj died on this fort, and yet it is an unforgettable day for Marathas.

Rush to reach at the Raigad fort!!!
We can reach at the top either by walk or rope-way from the base village, it requires around 2 hrs by walk and 20 min by ropeway. We need at least one day to see complete Raigad fort. If visitors have planned to stay longer then MTDC(Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation) rooms and ZP (Zilla Parishad) rooms are available on the fort, so there is no worry of accommodation. Many people love to visit the port in monsoon to enjoy the beautiful surroundings covered with greenery all over the place.
